Heat Pump And Heating The Home

By Robert Poole

A home can be kept warm with the use of a heat pump and heating through ducts or vents with central heating. They provide an energy-efficient alternate method for heating the home. Heat pumps work best in moderate climates while central heating works well in all temperature zones.

The heat pump works by diverting hot air from outside the house to the inside. In situations where the air outside is too cold, it will remain the primary source but will use furnaces or boilers as the most common backup. This is one of the most efficient and economical applications available.

Geothermal pumps do not use the warm outside air but what is stored in the ground. It then pushes the warmth throughout the building. Other methods more commonly used are the boiler and furnace or electrical resistance. All use some sort of fossil fuel but by having the ducts in place, they are all efficient.

Boilers can create steam that is dispersed by using radiators and pipes. In addition, they also make hot water that is sent through radiant floor systems, radiators and drive the heated air through the ductwork. Furnaces work the same in that they heat air that is forced through ducts.

Electric resistance is different because it makes the heat from electricity. Most often we see this method used with space, radiant and electric wall heaters. When using an electric furnace, the warmth generated by the electricity is forced through the central ducts to heat the house.

The most effective and popular method is achieved with the use of ductwork through out the house. The hot air is brought into the building from outside, or generated from the air, water, or electricity. The cost savings are realized by use of a thermostat to maintain a constant temperature. The ductwork necessary for central heating, contributes to more savings by allowing a person to close off rooms that are not inhabited

Using a heat pump and heating with central heating produces a consistent temperature in the home. Because it utilizes a thermostat, you always go home to a warm house instead of one that needs to be heated up quickly. It is a good way to produce an efficient, economical and warm cozy home.
